Our bird feeders are hand cast with a quality STONEWARE clay slip. I have found that the higher fire stoneware clays hold up to outdoor environment much better than lower-fire clays.

This is a vintage mold shape from the 1970’s, and is a limited edition (when the mold wears out it cannot be replaced).

We tested it (we love drawing birds to our yard), and our goldies and chickadees took to it within minutes of hanging it. I have pictured a few of our local birds, they vary in size and you can see the feeder accommodates a variety of sizes (we have some chunky dudes this year).

*** Comfortably holds a day’s worth of seed for small birds. We have about 14 goldfinches and 6 black capped chickadees, and we fill daily. Easy to wash if it gets rained on.

Finished with an awesome blue exterior glaze that has just enough movement in the kiln to cause the melt of the color variances. Inside is a light glaze so it is easy to clean. Strung with Nylon hanger, which holds up much better than cottons or hemps. NOTE: check the hanger cord periodically for wear / fray / knot snugness.

Not recommended to leave out in extreme cold temperatures. (We bring our ceramic feeders in when temps hit freezing).

Hand-washing is recommended.

I love creating my functional pottery, I never know what each day will create! This casting is a challenging one to not have it slump during creation.
