Creating a Home Fragrance Aroma Garden with Scentsy

Fragrance products have gained a lot of popularity in recent years – not only are they a great way to improve the ambience of your home, you immediately experience natural plant fragrances. The products we’ll be taking a look at in this article allow anyone to enjoy the full range of aromas of fragrance garden plants, without all the hassle associated with growing and caring for them.

The Amazing Benefits of Plant Fragrances

Apart from being pretty, plants produce many important molecules, a large percentage of which have important medicinal properties. Up to 50% of all over-the-counter pharmaceutical products today are plant-derived.

However, you don’t necessarily have to consume plants or brew them into tea in order to benefit from some of the chemical compounds they produce. Many of those compounds are volatile and readily diffuse into the air, stimulating your senses and creating proven biochemical changes in the body.

For example, citrus aroma, infused into the air has been proven in multiple studies to significantly reduce anxiety levels. Many different fragrances, including almond and apple have been shown to improve general mood. But apart from all the proven health benefits of fragrances, a pleasant aroma can simply be used to create a better environment in a room and subconsciously make people feel more comfortable in it.

Pleasant aromas also hide subtle unpleasant smells which always tend to accumulate in closed indoor spaces. And finally, fragrances can be a great hobby – there are a lot of different types of diffusers and countless different designs to choose from and creating different blends by mixing different essential oils can be a lot of fun!

If your still not convinced and would like to try real plants instead, check out our other article here.

What Is Scentsy?

Scentsy offers the highest quality fragrances and various types of diffuses and warmers in which they can be used.

The fragrant compounds which are used in the wax bars and in all the other products are identical to those found in the real plant material and are naturally-derived. Because of that, Scentsy products are the ideal way to enjoy the aromas of a fragrant garden indoors year-round.

Later in this article, we’ll take a deeper look at the specific products which the site offers and will help you choose the right one for your particular needs.

Does Scentsy Offer Garden Scents?

Scentsy offers a wide variety of floral scents, which let you enjoy all the aromas of a real fragrant garden. They also offer special flower-shaped diffusers, which look like tiny real flowers and emit a pleasant fragrance completely passively, without requiring electrical power or a heat source.

Those tiny diffusers are very long-lasting and once ‘started’ will emit the pleasant aroma for up to 2 months.

Advantages of Wax and Oil Fragrances Over A Live Fragrance Garden

Using fragrant waxes and oils instead of live flowering plants has many advantages. Diffusers and warmers don’t require any maintenance, offer a more steady output and unlike real flowers, emit zero pollen.

At least 40% of people are sensitive to flower pollen, which is extremely tiny and readily floats around in a room, carried by subtle air currents. Once this pollen is breathed in, it can trigger an immune response and inflammation in sensitive individuals. When it comes to herbs like Chamomile, Jasmine and Lavender, the live plants evaporate an extremely tiny amount of essential oil, which is rarely enough for significant therapeutic effects.

By loading a diffuser with a few drops of a 100% natural essential oils, a much higher essential oil concentration can be achieved in indoor air. Scentsy offers both diffusers and warmers (which we’ll discuss in a bit), as well as 100% natural essential oils, extracted form the highest quality starting plant material. It’s important to keep in mind that cheap and low quality scented products are often harsh, overpowering, irritating and short-lasting. The popular scented trees which hang from car rear-view mirrors or the powerful, irritating scented sprays in public indoor spaces are often the source of negative preconceived notions which some people have towards aromatherapy and fragrance products.

Those are usually low-quality products, made with artificial ingredients and their purpose has nothing to do with aromatherapy – they are usually designed to be overpowering and cover up the common unpleasant scents in cars and public spaces. So, if you don’t have any experience with high quality fragrance products, don’t jump to any conclusions before you’ve tried them!

What Type Of Product to Choose And How Do They Work?

Scentsy offers several different categories of fragrance products – diffusers, fan diffusers, warmers and a few unplugged devices, which don’t require any power and operate completely passively.

All of those products can be used in any indoor space, but they do have some differences in the way they look and operate. Let’s take a look at the different types and see what purpose each one is best suited for:

Warmers

Scentsy Warmers

Scentsy warmers are beautifully-designed, have a very steady aroma output and visually add to the ambience of the room. There are two main types of warmers – element warmers and standard warmers. Each are both found here.

Element warmers contain a heating element and do not emit light. Standard warmers use a low-power incandescent light bulb as a heat source. Choosing between the two comes down to whether or not you want to use the warmer as a low-power light source.

Because standard warmers use an incandescent light bulb, the light they produce doesn’t contain much wakefulness-promoting blue wavelengths, making them perfect for use before bed. Scentsy warmers are available in many different unique designs – there is even one carved out of a Himalayan salt crystal!

Plant-shaped warmers, like the Aloe Vera or the Little Garden warmer can be conveniently placed near other plants to conveniently blend in. There are options for every type of room interior – the classic satin black warmer for example fits great in a high-class, modern interiors. Themed designs, like the “Home is where my cat is” warmer make great gifts. Warmers have a short warm-up period of a few minutes before they start.

Diffusers

Diffusers use water, to which a few drops of a 100% natural Scentsy essential oil is added. They use an electric ultrasonic element to slowly turn the infused water into a gentle mist that diffuses into the air.

Diffusers have a high decorative value, can be used as a very visually-pleasing light source and feature many eye-catching designs. They are very versatile and reliable and allow you to quickly experiment with different essential oil blends. Diffusers are very suitable for living rooms and start instantly without a warm-up period.

Fan Diffusers

Fan diffusers use special pods, which provide up to 120 hours of output. They are cheaper than ultrasonic diffusers, but offer less control and versatility.

However, they are also the easiest to use, don’t require loading with essential oils or wax bars and don’t have a warm-up period. They are very suitable for short, intermittent use because they work very quickly, even in large rooms.

Unplugged Options

This is a large category, which features all the devices that don’t rely on external power, but rather on the natural evaporation of the fragrant oils.

The advantage of those products is that they are set-and-forget. Scentsy offers some very interesting products in this category, including the popular fragrance flowers, which are very practical to use and make a great budget gift for flower lovers.

They consist of a small bottle which contains a fragrant liquid and a cap with a wick shaped like a flower. Other unplugged options include sprays, scent circles and car bars. All of those are premium quality and are nothing like the cheap sprays or car fresheners found in convenience stores.

Travel tins are another interesting option in the unplugged category – they are tiny boxes that start to give off aroma as soon as you open them. The amount of aroma can be adjusted by sliding the lid. Travel tins are very portable and perfect for travelling and for use in hotel rooms or vehicles.

What Is The Difference Between Warmers And Fan Diffusers?

Larger fan diffusers can look very similar to warmers and both categories feature devices that contain a mains plug in their body. However, those devices operate somewhat differently and use different consumables.

Scentsy fan diffusers all use pods, while warmers all use wax bars. Fan diffusers simply move air through the pod, relying on the natural evaporation of the fragrant compounds, while warmers use heat, which can come either from an incandescent light bulb (Standard warmers category), or from a heating element that does not emit light (Element warmers category).

A warmer wax bar can usually supply aroma for 50-60 hours, while a fan diffuser pod lasts twice as long – around 120 hours.
