Orchid Insanity – Dendrobium kingianum

The Easiest Orchid on Earth Fragrant Blooms Compact, keiki/cane/offshoots NOT in Bloom When Shipped

Hey there! This has been our top-selling orchid for almost ten years! It is hard to screw up with this orchid!

HEY AGAIN! NOTE THIS BEFORE YOU ORDER:

1) We ship these plants WITHOUT any pots or media.
2) The “mini” size canes are VERY SMALL! Some canes are less than an inch in height! Now and then we get people who order this size and then complain about how small they are! This is weird and absurd, sort of like ordering a 6″ ruler and then complaining that it’s so small! How does that make sense?? But that’s the world we live in, where a seller can go OVERBOARD with explanations about how small something is, but still get complaints. If you want some laughs, check out our Onc. Twinkle listings where we go to near-obnoxious lengths to make clear how small the plants are — and you can read some of the ridiculous complaints about size that we STILL get!

QUICK FACTS:

– Easiest orchid ever! Hard to kill! Fast-growing, hardy, and forgiving (user friendly)
– Fragrant blooms (blooms late winter/early spring after winter rest period)
– Grow indoors or outdoors in practically any media (or even just water). Roots easily and propagates profusely. Growing instructions included! Can handle temps in 30s F or over 95 F.
– Sizes offered (see photo for size comparisons):

LARGE single cane

MEDIUM single cane

MINI (comes in packs of 2) MINI size canes are 1 – 1.5 inches tall, and come from the same plants, they’re just smaller. They will eventually produce new shoots/canes that are normal size.

– HOW LONG UNTIL IT BLOOMS?: The MINI canes will take about TWO to THREE YEARS before you get to a plant that will bloom consistently. The MEDIUM and LARGE canes might actually bloom at the next blooming season (late winter/early spring, but will typically take about 12 – 18 months before getting to a size of plant that will bloom consistently. Generally the LARGE canes will get you to a Blooming Size plant faster than the MEDIUM canes.
– PLEASE NOTE: Plants are shipped BARE ROOT and are NOT IN BLOOM when shipped. Also, canes/keikis MAY NOT HAVE ROOTS when shipped, but root VERY easily when planted. If you’d like to receive the plant in-pot (in a 2.25″ plastic pot), it will be an additional $1.50; please let us know if that is the case.

Dendrobium kingianum is an extremely easy orchid that anyone can grow. It’s a fast-growing orchid that tolerates a wide range of conditions, making it perfect for the beginning orchid grower. Its long-lasting blooms (flowers last around a month) also produce a beautiful fragrance. It comes from eastern Australia where it can handle temperatures near freezing in the winter, and into the triple digits in the summer. You can grow Den. kingianum inside the home or office, or outdoors (just bring it in during before freezing). It will adapt to any kind of loose media such as bark or even rocks (it is also known as the rock orchid). It only needs light, water, and occasional fertilizing to thrive.

The canes (also called “keikis”) offered here are aerial propagations from a larger plant. In botanical terms, they are known as offshoots or propagations. This orchid is like a kitten or rabbit — born practically ready to breed! We offer these canes individually or in small groups.

Dendrobium kingianum would make a perfect addition to any orchid or plant collection, or a wonderful gift for someone who enjoys growing beautiful plants and wants to grow an orchid that you can’t find at the supermarket. Growing instructions are included. (MINI size comes with two MINIATURE canes about 1 – 1.5 inches tall).

PLEASE NOTE: These plants are NOT IN BLOOM when shipped. They are shipped BARE ROOT (which means no pot, no media). They may not have roots when shipped but they root VERY easily in a couple of weeks (which is fast for orchids) when planted in moist media

(or even a 1/2 inch of water!).
