Fanal Astilbe

Red Flowers Above Lacy Bronze Foliage

The Astilbe ‘Fanal’, Astilbe arendsii, is a colorful feathery flower with deep red blooms and lacy deep green or bronze-green foliage.

The foliage in spring is mahogany, but as autumn approaches, the blooms turn to shades of brown that look wonderful in winter snowscapes. The flowers contrast wonderfully with the dark green glossy foliage.

‘Fanal’ is most successfully grown in a shady area but can tolerate some morning sun. A moist, well-drained area is a key factor for growing a healthy plant. Do not allow Astilbe ‘Fanal’ to dry out.

In order to keep Astilbe looking good for the next year, do not cut it back in the winter, (the old foliage helps protect the plant from winter damage), but prune in early spring.

Astilbe is considered to be deer resistant and will attract hummingbirds. Use ‘Fanal’ Astilbe as beautiful cut flowers for a grand bouquet!

Plant it in perennial borders or shade gardens with hosta’s and ferns. You will be pleased with the results!
